I am surely not alone in being amazed at the hypocrisy of those Conservative Councillors who wring their hands at the soaring cost of the piece of sculpture on the Riverside (Star 26.09.09) . Were those not the very same councillors who were members of the cabinet that approved the contract in the first place? I would have thought that an apology might be more in order than protests about the mounting cost.
I gather that it is only thanks to the persistence of the Shropshire Star that we know the details of the costs of this project. Perhaps someone could tell us who signed off the feasibility study that failed to show the true cost of erecting this piece of artwork.
