Shrewsbury Unemployment

With parts of Shrewsbury suffering twice the national rate of unemployment, news that slightly fewer people are claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance will prove cold comfort to the record number of people who are looking for work.

The Government’s headline-grabbing announcements haven’t even scratched the surface of the problems young people are facing.  People looking for work shouldn’t have to wait 6 months to get intensive support – there needs to be help from day one so that young people get the support they need to get into work.  While bankers’ bonuses are back, unemployment is still rising.

What is particularly worrying is that a Tory government would make things even worse – they would bring on savage cuts which would push unemployment higher still.
